UNIVERSITIES

Ukraine higher education institutions are divided into National, state and private institutions. National, state and private higher education institutions come under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Health respectively.

As of July 2009 there were 900 different universities in Ukraine.
As of March 2010 there were 881 universities, colleges and technical schools. The National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv and National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy feature in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities at 1,346 and 2,055 respectively out of 8,000.

In July 2009 Ukrainian Education and Science Ministry predicts that one third of Ukrainian universities will be liquidated by 2013. Merger, Tough competition, the quality of education, the reduction in the number of school leavers were the reasons given for the reduction of the number of universities in Ukraine


In the Ukraine there are
